Fanwood, NJ — September 28 — The Fanwood Fire Department, located at 275 North Martine Avenue, responded to five incidents during the time period, which included two motor vehicle accidents and a reported gas leak. One of those incidents occurred on La Grande Avenue in the 100 block and involved a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
Firefighters arrived quickly and secured the vehicle to prevent further movement before starting the process of extricating the occupant.
They used specialized hydraulic equipment to gain access to the vehicle and successfully removed the driver who was trapped inside.
Once the driver was rescued, fire personnel provided initial medical attention and assisted in securing the scene.
One of the injured individuals was taken to a hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Vehicle stabilization and the use of hydraulic rescue tools are essential components of technical rescue operations.
Firefighters need to work together to manage tool operation, ensure safe access to the patient, and stabilize the vehicle in a way that minimizes any additional movement during the extrication process.
As part of the borough’s emergency services system, the Fanwood Fire Department operates alongside other public safety departments during emergency responses.
The department is officially recognized as one of the borough’s municipal departments and emergency services providers.
The incident on La Grande Avenue gave the Fanwood firefighters an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in vehicle stabilization, extrication, patient care, and scene safety.
In addition to this incident, the department also handled several other calls that day, including another motor vehicle accident and a gas-related emergency.
