West Milford, NJ — September 28 — Members of the West Milford Fire Company #4, based at 1352 Macopin Road, along with Fire Companies #1 and #6, responded to a vehicle fire that was reported near a building on Westbrook Road. When the units arrived, they found a working car fire in a driveway.
The burning vehicle was parked close to another vehicle and a nearby home, which required the firefighters to act quickly to control the fire and protect the surrounding property.
After putting out the vehicle fire, the crews performed an overhaul of the area to check for any remaining heat or hidden fire conditions.
This step was crucial in vehicle fire operations because it ensured that the fire had been completely extinguished before the scene was cleared. West Milford's fire protection system includes six volunteer fire companies that operate across the township.
These companies include Macopin Volunteer Fire Company #4, Apshawa Company #1, and West Milford Volunteer Fire Company #6.
Township records also indicate that the six companies received support for firefighter protective gear, such as turnout gear, rescue helmets, gloves, and other essential equipment.
The response on Westbrook Road showed how multiple West Milford fire companies can work together effectively during a vehicle fire near potential exposures. The crews completed both suppression and overhaul procedures before returning to their duties.
