Wayne, NJ — September 15 — Members of Community Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc., located at 93-97 Parish Dr., responded along with Packanack Lake Company #5 and Wayne Fire Department Company #2 - Southside to an elevator rescue incident at Willowbrook in Wayne Township.

The call required firefighters from three companies to go to the shopping center to assess the elevator emergency and help anyone who might have been trapped.

The crews were ready to secure the elevator, create access, and work together to safely remove the occupants.

Company #5 acted as Wayne's rescue company and was involved in handling technical rescue situations across the township.

Its role included providing extra equipment and trained personnel for incidents that needed specialized operations.

Wayne firefighters have experience with similar elevator emergencies in the past.

In 2022, Companies 1, 2, and 5 responded when six children were trapped in an elevator at a Wayne entertainment center. That situation ultimately required the use of a high-angle rope system by the department's Special Response Team to safely evacuate the individuals.

The September 15 incident once again brought the three volunteer companies together for an elevator-related emergency.

The situation highlighted the effective coordination between engine and rescue teams during technical calls in Wayne Township.
