Gettysburg, PA - Less than an hour after clearing an adjacent crash scene, Gettysburg firefighters rushed back to York Road to battle a vehicle fire threatening a nearby commercial building and neighboring rental trucks.
Adams County emergency dispatchers alerted crews that a motorcycle had caught fire inside the rear cargo box of a truck parked at the Gettysburg U-Haul facility on York Road. Chief 1 arrived on scene, re-established York Road Command, and reported a well-involved U-Haul truck with intense flames impinging on an adjacent rental truck, though the fire had not yet extended to the nearby commercial structure.
Engine 1-2 stretched a front bumper attack line and initiated an immediate, aggressive exterior and interior knock, quickly extinguishing the bulk of the flames before the fire could spread to the building. The fast attack contained the fire to the primary truck, leaving the second vehicle with only minor exterior heat damage, while the motorcycle at the origin of the fire was a total loss.
Operating alongside Engine 33-3, Truck 1, and Gettysburg Fire Police, units brought the incident under control within 30 minutes, concluding an extraordinary series of three separate emergencies within a half-mile stretch of York Road.
