First-Alarm Crews Halt Working Basement Fire on Creighton Avenue in Crafton

Crafton, PA - Fast action by first-due fire crews contained a working basement fire late Wednesday night, preventing flames from consuming a residential dwelling on Creighton Avenue.


At approximately 10:50 p.m. on September 30, 2026, Crafton VFD Station 128 Click to open side panel for more information and regional first-alarm mutual aid companies were dispatched to Creighton Avenue following reports of heavy black smoke filling a residential structure.


The Station 128 Chief arrived on scene alongside local police officers and confirmed an active, working fire burning within the basement of the home. Station 128 mobilized a comprehensive apparatus response, deploying Truck 128, Rescue 128, Attack 128, and Squad 128.


Operating in the primary engine role upon arrival, the crew from Truck 128 advanced a charged handline directly into the lower level to launch an aggressive interior attack, quickly knocking down the main body of fire.


Arriving mutual aid companies and supporting Crafton crews initiated extensive vertical and horizontal ventilation to clear dense smoke from the upper levels while conducting overhaul operations to check walls and ceiling joists for hidden fire spread.


No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. After the fire was fully extinguished and the property was deemed safe, the scene was turned over to the Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the origin and cause.
