Eldora, N.J. — September 25 — Dennis Volunteer Fire Company responded to Route 47 in the Eldora section of Dennis Township after a fallen wire ignited a fire in the surrounding woods.
The incident took place on Friday as rain and strong winds were moving through the area. Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked in the wooded area to control and put out the fire caused by the downed electrical wire. A separate weather-related event was also reported in Dennisville, where a large tree fell and blocked Little Mill Road.
During the response, firefighters had to deal with electrical hazards while handling the vegetation fire.
Downed utility wires were treated as live until utility workers could secure the area. Safety guidelines for utility operations advise emergency responders and the public to avoid touching fallen wires and to stay at a safe distance from them.
The fire was managed by the Dennis Volunteer Fire Company, which serves the Dennis Township area from its station in Dennisville. The Dennis Township Fire District stated that its volunteer fire companies provide fire protection through trained staff and established emergency response procedures.
