Wood-Ridge Crews Extinguished Garage Fire Near Homes

Wood-Ridge, N.J. — September 27 — The Wood-Ridge Fire Department responded around 9:28 a.m.to 20 Fifth Street for a reported structure fire involving a detached garage. When companies arrived, they found the garage fully engulfed, with fire spreading toward nearby homes. Engine 901 stretched a 2½-inch handline and started fire suppression efforts. Crews worked to control the fire and stop it from spreading to the surrounding residences.
Adjacent homes experienced heat damage, but the fire was confined to the original garage.
Firefighters checked for any spread and completed overhaul operations once the main fire was put out.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
Fire departments from Hasbrouck Heights, Carlstadt, and Wallington assisted Wood-Ridge crews at the scene.
Wood-Ridge Police Department officers provided support, while Holy Name BLS and HUMC ALS units were also on site during the incident.
Lodi and Moonachie fire departments provided coverage for the Borough while local companies handled the fire.
The incident required several mutual-aid agencies to work together while crews maintained fire protection for the surrounding area. All companies had returned to service by approximately noon.
The Wood-Ridge Fire Department operated from 85 Humboldt Street and continued fireground operations until the scene was secured.
