Ridgefield Park, N.J. — September 5 — Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to an apartment fire that was reported at 82 Brinkerhoff Street around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday.

Car 1 arrived at approximately 4:24 a.m. and observed flames before requesting a second alarm via the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center. The situation was later upgraded to a third alarm when smoke spread through the common hallway and stairwell, and several residents needed to be evacuated from fire escapes.

Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, and Truck 2 entered the building to perform primary searches and an interior attack.

Firefighters established three handlines inside the structure and worked to put out the fire on multiple floors.

Fire departments from Bogota, Englewood, Hackensack, Little Ferry, and Teaneck provided mutual aid to support Ridgefield Park crews with fireground operations.

Firefighters, working alongside the Ridgefield Park Police Department, rescued several residents from their apartments and fire escapes. Additional information confirmed that the building is a multi-unit residential structure.

Once the main fire was under control, crews carried out an overhaul and secured utilities to ensure the fire did not spread.

Two civilians were reported to be injured and were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. The Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department is based at 50 Main Street in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.
