Sherman, Conn. — September 3 — On Wednesday night, the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department provided equipment and personnel to assist with a trail rescue operation in Kent's Macedonia Brook State Park. The call was received just as the sun was going down, and several agencies from the area responded together. In order to traverse the slope and move the rescued individual, crews collaborated for several hours in steep terrain with sparse cell coverage, setting up rope systems and utilizing a Stokes basket with a wheeled modification that Sherman supplied.
The person was safely taken to a waiting ambulance just after 11 p.m. Every first responder who took part made it down the mountain safely. Noting that such operations highlight how training and smooth collaboration with mutual aid partners are crucial to successful rescues, the department acknowledged the teamwork.
