South Hackensack High-Water Vehicle Deploys to Rescue Flooded Residents in Hackensack

South Hackensack, NJ - Specialized high-water rescue equipment was mobilized Sunday afternoon after sudden flash flooding inundated roadways and residential neighborhoods throughout the northern section of Hackensack, leaving multiple residents and motorists stranded.

At approximately 11:19 a.m. on September 13, 2026, the City of Hackensack requested mutual aid assistance from the South Hackensack Fire Department Click to open side panel for more information , specifically calling for High Water Truck 407 to navigate impassable, deep-water conditions.

Operating in coordination with the Hackensack Fire Department - HEADQUARTERS Click to open side panel for more information (Marine 2 and Squad 1), the crew aboard Truck 407 deployed into swamped neighborhoods to reach trapped vehicles and flood-bound homes. First responders conducted wellness checks and carried out safe evacuations of several residents who requested removal from rising waters.

Following more than four hours of continuous water-rescue and evacuation operations across flooded corridors, High Water 407 completed all assigned missions and returned to service in South Hackensack at 3:43 p.m.
