Fair Lawn Firefighters Knocked Down Early-Morning Business Fire

Fair Lawn, N.J. — September 15 — The Fair Lawn Fire Department was called to a commercial fire that broke out early in the morning at the Hot Bagel store located on Saddle River Road.The incident began when a worker arrived to open the business and noticed heavy smoke inside.

The worker contacted 911 around 3:23 a.m. Following the report, the initial fire department response was upgraded to a full first-alarm situation after Assistant Fire Chief Marc Palmieri confirmed smoke was coming from the business.

About 35 firefighters from all four Fair Lawn fire companies participated in the response. Support from the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad, Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Office of Emergency Management, and Fair Lawn Police Department was also provided at the scene.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered the fire had spread into the walls and ceiling. Firefighters cut open sections of the walls and ceiling to access the fire and successfully extinguished it. The fire was brought under control approximately 10 minutes after the arrival of the first responders.

Fire officials stated that both the business and a neighboring business sustained moderate damage. There were no injuries reported among the worker or the firefighters involved.

This incident emphasized the importance of calling 911 immediately when smoke or fire is detected. The worker’s prompt call allowed firefighters to arrive while the fire was still contained within the building.
