Norwalk Solar Panel fire

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 3:01 pm.
The fire was located at 520 Main Ave. in a 2 story commercial building. The initial call was for smoke and flames coming from the roof. The first due Engine was only several hundred yards away when the initial call came in as they were enroute to a motor vehicle accident. They were able to quickly divert to the fire which played a key role in containing fire spread.
Upon arrival, Norwalk Engine 1 encountered smoke and flames coming from multiple solar panels on the roof of the building. An attack line was stretched to the roof and the fire extinguished. The fire was contained and extinguished in 10 minutes by a 1st alarm assignment consisting of 26 fire personnel.
There were no injuries reported.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
