Leverett, MA - At approximately 13:10 on 07 September, Leverett Fire/EMS was dispatched to Putney Road to investigate a report of a tree on wires with a small fire. Upon arrival, crews found that the primary electrical line supplying the last two houses on Putney Road had come down and was lying on the ground while still energized, causing a fire on the roadway.

After Eversource arrived and cut power to the street, the downed line was confirmed to be de-energized. The tree was then removed from the overhead lines, and Leverett Fire assisted with clearing debris from the roadway and extinguishing the fire on the pavement.

The department reminds the public that any power line—whether on the ground or suspended—can be extremely hazardous and may cause injury or death. Residents are urged to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance when encountering downed power lines.
