During the overnight hours of September 25, 2026, Oakland Fire Department units responded to emergency calls reporting a working structural fire in the 5100 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland. Arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and flame issuing from the multi-story complex, prompting incident commanders to quickly strike a third alarm to summon substantial personnel and equipment to the scene.

Under intense heat and challenging zero-visibility conditions, ladder and rescue crews executed rapid primary searches, successfully reaching and extricating multiple occupants trapped on the building's second floor.
