SHIRLEY, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2024) – The Brookhaven Fire Department responded to a house fire at 126 Northern Blvd. on Monday at approximately 11:20 a.m. Firecom advised Safety Officer Dan Sicillian, the officer in charge, that smoke was reported coming from a bedroom by a firefighter already on scene.
Brookhaven FD arrived shortly after, and mutual aid was requested from Bellport and Yaphank fire departments. Command directed the first engine to stretch a hose line through the front door. Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire—a mattress in the front bedroom—and extinguished it.
Shirley Ambulance was called to the scene for firefighter rehabilitation and confirmed that all occupants of the home were unharmed. The mutual aid request was canceled as Brookhaven firefighters successfully contained the blaze without additional assistance.
The scene was later turned over to the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal's Office, who will investigate the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
