Twelve Families Displaced After Tree Falls on Apartment Building in Ocala

(OCALA, Fla.) Sept. 3, 2022 - On Saturday, Sept. 3, at approximately 8:02 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue responded to reports of a confined space emergency at Saddleworth Green Apartments, 2901 SW 41st St.

Engine 4, Rescue 4, Tower 1, and Battalion 11, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, units found a large tree resting on building #1300. The tree, which appeared to be in the process of being cut, had limbs piercing through the building’s roof.

Firefighters cleared the building, ensuring residents and pets exited safely.

Marion County Animal Services’ assistance was requested to safeguard the animals whose owners weren’t home.

Due to damages to the building’s infrastructure 12 apartments units were deemed uninhabitable.

Although no injuries were reported, 12 families were displaced. To assist families in need of shelter, aid from the American Red Cross was requested.

The Ocala Police Department, the Building Inspector, and Ocala Electric Utilities also responded.
