Second-Alarm Long Branch House Fire Requires Multiple Occupant Rescues

Long Branch firefighters and police rescued five occupants from a three-story residence during a second-alarm fire that brought mutual-aid resources to the city's West End section.

The fire was reported at approximately 3:30 a.m. on September 23, 2026, at 8 West End Court in Long Branch, New Jersey. First-arriving emergency personnel encountered a working structure fire with occupants requiring assistance from the upper floors.

Long Branch firefighters used ladder operations to rescue two occupants trapped on the third floor. Long Branch police officers assisted three additional residents who had escaped onto a second-floor roof. All five occupants were removed from the building, with no serious injuries reported.

As fire conditions developed, command transmitted a second alarm and requested additional resources. Monmouth Beach Fire Company responded with Ladder 33 (3391), placing its tower ladder in service for elevated master-stream operations and exterior suppression while Long Branch companies continued fireground operations.

High winds complicated suppression efforts and increased concern for nearby exposures. The involved residence sustained extensive structural damage, while the neighboring cottage at 7½ West End Court—known as the former residence where Bruce Springsteen wrote much of "Born to Run"—was not damaged.

The fire-damaged building was considered structurally compromised and was demolished later that day. The cause of the fire was not identified in the reports reviewed.
