Vernon Firefighters Coordinated Multi-Agency Hiker Rescue

Vernon, N.J. — September 12 — The Vernon Township Fire Department Company #1 received a call about an injured hiker on the Stairway to Heaven trail.This led to a coordinated effort involving multiple emergency services.
Firefighters from the Highland Lakes Fire Department, Pochuck Valley Fire Department, and McAfee Fire Department worked alongside New Jersey Forest Fire personnel, Vernon Emergency Medical Services, and New Jersey State Park Police during the incident.
The teams collaborated to find the hiker and provide aid in the trail area. Once the hiker was found, emergency personnel provided care and managed the response until the situation was resolved safely.
This incident underscored the importance of teamwork during emergencies in wooded and trail environments.
Vernon Township operates four volunteer fire departments, with the Vernon Township Fire Department covering the Vernon Valley area and offering support to the other departments when necessary.
