Mastic FD and Local EMS Handle Two-Vehicle Crash

MASTIC, NY – On Saturday, August 30th, the Mastic FD was activated, along with Mastic Ambulance, for a vehicle crash with reported entrapment on Moriches-Middle Island Road at Carnation Drive in North Shirley at approximately 12:43 PM. Dispatchers reported that one person was trapped in one of the vehicles.
Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman of the Mastic FD arrived on scene and advised that all occupants were out of the vehicle. He informed members of Engine 5-12-1 that a significant cleanup was needed and that two vehicles required securing.
While firefighters were cleaning up fluids and debris and securing the vehicles, EMTs from Mastic and Manorville Ambulance, under the command of Mastic Ambulance Chief of Department Mike Ryan, evaluated the occupants of both vehicles for injuries. One person was transported to a local hospital by the Manorville Ambulance Co.
The scene was turned over to the Suffolk County Police Department a short time later.
