Two Vehicles Collide in Route 46 Rollover; Occupants Free Upon Fire Department Arrival

Fairfield, NJ - Two people were transported to an area hospital Friday night following a two-vehicle rollover collision along Route 46 that mobilized multiple emergency response units.

On the night of September 25, the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 46, with initial 911 reports warning of a rollover with occupants trapped inside the wreckage.

Responding fire companies—including Engine 3, Engine 1, and Squad 1—arrived on the highway to locate two involved passenger vehicles, with the occupants having already been extricated prior to the department's arrival.

Firefighters assisted in gaining entry to the vehicle interiors to ensure no additional passengers remained unaccounted for, while working in tandem with the Fairfield Police Department to secure the active highway scene, control traffic flow, and sweep the roadway for fuel leaks, battery hazards, and scattered debris.

Emergency medical technicians from the West Essex First Aid Squad evaluated the involved motorists at the scene before transporting two patients by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
