Trumbull Firefighters Responded to Gas Grill Fire

Trumbull, CT — September 7 — The Nichols Fire Department responded to a reported gas grill fire at a home. Before the arrival of firefighters, the homeowner used a portable fire extinguisher to control the flames.
The fire was confined to the grill and did not spread to the house or nearby property.
Firefighters inspected the area to confirm the fire was completely out and that there were no remaining risks.
Grill fires are a frequent cause of outdoor fires, especially when grease, gas lines, or flammable materials are involved.
The U.S.Fire Administration advises using grills only outdoors, placing them at least three feet away from walls, decks, railings, eaves, and other flammable items, and never leaving a lit grill unattended.
For gas grills, the National Fire Protection Association suggests checking propane hoses for leaks and keeping the grill clean to minimize the risk of grease-related fires.
If a gas leak is noticed, the grill should not be used until it has been inspected and repaired.
This incident highlights the importance of having a proper fire extinguisher available while grilling and only attempting to put out a small fire if it can be done safely with a clear way to escape.
