Afternoon Collision at Central and Hancock Streets Leaves One Injured, Prompts Extrication

Springfield, MA - Firefighters deployed mechanical rescue tools to extricate an occupant trapped following a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Central and Hancock streets on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 15, Springfield Fire and Emergency Services personnel were dispatched to the busy city intersection after receiving reports of a crash with an occupant unable to exit the vehicle.

First-arriving emergency units assessed the impact damage and stabilized the vehicle before deploying hydraulic extrication equipment to cut away metal framing and remove the trapped occupant safely.

Emergency medical services personnel triaged the motorist on scene before transporting them by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Responders remained in the area to clear scattered debris and mitigate vehicle fluid hazards before reopening the intersection to traffic.
