Two Extricated, Three Hospitalized Following Rollover Crash at Dwight and Patton Streets

Springfield, MA - Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free two trapped occupants Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision caused a rollover at a busy intersection, sending three people to a local hospital.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on September 2, Springfield Fire and Emergency Services units were dispatched to the intersection of Dwight Street and Patton Street following 911 reports of a high-impact crash with an overturned vehicle.

Emergency crews arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles in the intersection, with one resting on its side or roof and two occupants mechanically trapped inside the wreckage. Firefighters stabilized the overturned vehicle and deployed heavy extrication equipment—including hydraulic spreaders and cutters—to breach the cabin framing and safely free both individuals.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated all involved parties on scene. Three individuals were subsequently transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of what officials characterized as non-life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters managed automotive fluid spills and assisted law enforcement with scene safety and debris removal before clearing the roadway.
