Attleboro Fire Department Handled I-95 Fuel Spill

Attleboro, MA — September 24 — The Attleboro Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 North near Exit 2, involving a dump truck and a diesel fuel spill. Firefighters were called at approximately 8:19 a.m.to mile marker 2.5, where they found two sedans, an SUV, and a dump truck involved in the collision.

The dump truck had damaged its fuel tank, resulting in a diesel fuel leak onto the road. A significant amount of fuel reached a nearby storm drain. Firefighters set up a containment dam around the spill and drain to prevent the diesel from spreading further and minimize the risk of additional contamination.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene to help with the environmental response and cleanup efforts. One person was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with what is believed to be a minor injury. The vehicles involved sustained minor damage, according to the fire department.

Firefighters stayed at the scene to manage the fuel spill and assist with the cleanup, which was completed around 9:40 a.m. The incident required coordination between fire personnel, law enforcement, medical services, and environmental officials.

Firefighters used spill-control methods to protect the stormwater system while the appropriate environmental agency handled the cleanup.
