September 22, 2025 — The Broome County Office of Emergency Services has officially launched its new Advanced Life Support (ALS) First Response program, a major step forward in strengthening local emergency medical care.

Under the program, a paramedic in a first response vehicle will be available to respond directly to emergencies. The ALS responder can deliver critical care before an ambulance arrives and provide advanced support for basic life support (BLS) ambulance crews when needed.

County officials say this initiative is designed to shorten the time patients wait for lifesaving treatment while improving coordination and backup for EMS agencies across Broome County.

“This program enhances our ability to get advanced care to patients faster, which can make all the difference in critical situations,” the department noted in its announcement.

The ALS First Response program will be deployed countywide and is expected to significantly improve outcomes in medical emergencies.
