Bryan County Fire / EMS Competes in Annual Competition

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On Friday September 23, 2011, members of the 2011 Bryan County Fire/EMS Competition Team assembled in Columbus Georgia to compete in the annual competition at this years Georgia State Firefighters Association / Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs Annual Conference.

While the competition can be intense, it is really about having a good time while showing off some of your firefighting skills.

Each year the competition staff have a "mystery event" which is not announced until approx. 1 hour prior to competition begins.

As you know, firefighting demands good hand to eye coordination and the ability to think fast in an emergency situation. The "Egg Toss" which was this years mystery event challenged those skills. Five Team members were each placed 5 yards apart in full turn-out gear to include gloves. Beginning at the number 1 position the egg had to be tossed down the line to each member and then back to the number 1 position without dropping or breaking the egg and complete this in the shortest time.

Bryan County placed 1st in this event in a time of 12.04 seconds.

Other events included, broken hose event, barrel roll and bucket brigade and although they did not place in the top five positions in these events, all team members had a great time and are looking forward to next year.

Bryan County 2011 Competition Team Members are: Denise Youmans (Team Captain) Chris Youmans, Ben Tapley, Victoria Seigler, Thomas Cook Mark Waters and Jonathan Daniels
