ROARING SPRING, Pa. (Sunday, Sept. 14) — Firefighters battled a brush fire Sunday afternoon on Papermill Road after a downed electrical line ignited nearby vegetation, officials said.

Friendship Fire Company’s Assistant Chief 60 arrived first and assumed command. Crews from Brush 60 and Chief 60 began an aggressive attack to contain the flames until mutual aid companies from Freedom Township and Martinsburg arrived.

Firefighters contained the blaze quickly but could not fully extinguish the fire until power crews confirmed the line was de-energized. Once it was safe, crews put out remaining hot spots along the line.
