Two-Vehicle Accident on Underhill Avenue Prompts Hydraulic Rescue and Trauma Transport

Yorktown, NY - Firefighters used hydraulic extrication equipment to pop a driver’s side door and free an injured motorist following a two-vehicle collision during the morning rush hour on Wednesday in northern Westchester County.

At 8:06 a.m. on September 9, the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched alongside Yorktown EMS to the intersection of Underhill Avenue and Croton Lake Road (NYS Route 129) for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible occupant entrapment.

Car 2532, Engine 272, and Rescue 16 responded to the scene, where arriving crews encountered a two-car accident blocking the intersection with one driver experiencing a minor structural pin within the vehicle. Firefighters immediately stabilized both involved vehicles to prevent shifting and mitigated automotive fluid hazards.

Rescue crews then went to work with hydraulic tools to remove the driver's door, creating a wide opening that allowed Yorktown EMS paramedics to safely assess the patient, initiate treatment, and package the driver for extraction. Yorktown EMS subsequently transported the patient to an area trauma center for advanced medical care.
