Arcade Rigs Mobilize Pumping Relay and Water Shuttle to Aid North Java Barn Firefight

Arcade, NY - Firefighters and apparatus from the Arcade Fire Department deployed on mutual aid early Tuesday morning, establishing an extensive engine relay and water shuttle to battle a working barn fire in the North Java Fire District.

In the early morning hours of September 22, the Arcade Fire Department was requested to assist the North Java Fire Company with an active, large-scale barn fire. Facing the common rural challenge of a lengthy setback from the main roadway, responding companies had to orchestrate a complex rural water supply operation to ensure uninterrupted water delivery to forward master streams and handlines.

Arcade Engine 5 integrated into a multi-engine pumping relay, picking up water at the roadway and boosting pressure down a long private driveway to continuously feed the forward attack engine and ladder truck operating at the fire building. Simultaneously, Arcade 6 was assigned to tanker shuttle operations, hauling water from designated fill sites back to the staging area to maintain reserve volumes.

In addition to water supply logistics, Arcade personnel deployed directly to forward sectors to assist North Java crews with exterior and interior fire suppression, dampening down heavy structural fire and working to protect nearby exposures before clearing the scene.
