Lakeview, NY - A multi-vehicle rollover collision involving heavy entrapment shut down the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway late Thursday night into early Friday morning, leaving two motorists critically injured near Exit 17 in southwestern Nassau County.

During the late-night hours of September 3, the Lakeview Fire Department was dispatched alongside emergency medical units to the eastbound Southern State Parkway at Hempstead Avenue for a multi-vehicle pileup with confirmed occupant entrapment. First-arriving responders encountered a chaotic scene involving five passenger vehicles scattered across the travel lanes, including one overturned car with an occupant heavily pinned inside the cabin.

Firefighters quickly stabilized the overturned vehicle and initiated technical extrication operations to safely cut and manipulate the wreckage, freeing the trapped driver. Paramedics established a triage perimeter and identified two "red-tag" critical trauma patients requiring immediate, high-acuity life support interventions.

Lakeview Ambulance 4181 and an ambulance from memorandum of understanding (MOU) mutual aid partner Northwell Health EMS (operating as 4182) rapidly transported the two critically injured victims to regional trauma centers for advanced medical treatment.
