PATTERSON HEIGHTS, Pa. (Friday, Sept. 12) — The Patterson Heights Volunteer Fire Department reached a milestone Friday evening with its 300th call of the year, officials said.

So far in 2025, the department has handled 226 quick response service (QRS) medical calls and 75 fire runs without missing an incident. Leaders said the department is on pace to finish the year with about 428 runs.

The average response time from dispatch to en route is 3 minutes and 26 seconds, according to department data. Typical staffing averages 2.6 personnel for QRS calls and 6.2 for fire calls.

The department is one of the only QRS-certified agencies in Beaver County automatically dispatched to every EMS call in Patterson Heights and Patterson Township. Certified EMRs and EMTs can begin assessments and care until an ambulance arrives, or handle lower-priority calls under medical command guidance.

Officials said the model may not work in larger communities but ensures faster care and more efficient use of EMS resources locally. They credited residents, the Patterson Heights Council and the Patterson Township Board of Commissioners for their support.

The department also encouraged new volunteers to apply for firefighting, QRS or associate membership opportunities.
