18-Year-Old Dies After Being Pulled From Jenkins Pond
An 18-year-old Connecticut man died after being pulled from Jenkins Pond on Monday evening, Aug. 31, following an emergency response by Falmouth public safety personnel.
Falmouth police and firefighters responded to Jenkins Pond at approximately 5:49 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible drowning. Authorities said two people had been paddleboarding on the pond when one of them fell into the water and did not resurface.
Falmouth Fire and Rescue personnel deployed a boat and located the victim in the water. After bringing him from the pond, rescuers immediately began lifesaving measures.
The victim was transported to Falmouth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The young man was subsequently identified as Abdullah Naveed, 18, of Vernon, Connecticut.
Falmouth Marine and Environmental Services and the Massachusetts State Environmental Police also responded to assist at the scene.
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office took jurisdiction of the investigation. The Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was also tasked with determining the cause and manner of death.
