Crews Use Tanker Shuttle to Battle Rural House Fire

EAST CHATHAM, NY — Firefighters from New York and Massachusetts responded to a heavily involved residential structure fire on Stonewall Road, where crews established a rural water supply operation to support suppression efforts.
Columbia County 911 dispatched the Red Rock task force at 4:21 p.m. on September 7. Red Rock Car 1 arrived to find a single-family residence heavily involved and requested additional tankers and manpower.
With no hydrants available, crews established a tanker shuttle and portable water supply operation. Red Rock Engine 7612 laid approximately 1,300 feet of large-diameter hose, while Canaan Engine 3441 established a tanker dump site near the driveway.
The main body of fire was knocked down by approximately 6:15 p.m. Crews then conducted extensive overhaul, assisted by a Town of Canaan Highway Department excavator due to structural collapse and debris.
Mutual aid was provided by Canaan, East Chatham, Lebanon Valley, North Chatham, Niverville, Austerlitz, Tri-Village, Chatham and Ghent, along with Richmond and West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Chatham Rescue, New York State Police and Columbia County fire coordinators also assisted, while Stephentown provided coverage.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
