West Sayville Responders Lug Equipment Aboard Ferry to Aid Fire Island Pines Firefight

West Sayville, NY - Firefighters from the West Sayville Fire Department deployed across the Great South Bay on Wednesday afternoon, boarding a local passenger ferry laden with portable firefighting equipment to assist in controlling a working residential fire in Fire Island Pines.

On the afternoon of September 16, West Sayville was activated as part of a coordinated mainland mutual aid mobilization to assist barrier island companies combating an aggressive structure fire. Facing unique geographic logistics that prevent traditional vehicular crossings, responding personnel mobilized rapidly to the Sayville Ferry terminal on the South Shore mainland.

Members loaded onto the passenger vessel carrying essential portable equipment, forcible entry tools, and firefighting gear by hand. Upon docking at the barrier island community, the crew deployed on foot down the timber boardwalk network to integrate immediately into forward operating sectors.

West Sayville firefighters operated alongside multiple island and mainland departments, assisting frontline suppression crews with line advancements, ventilation, and perimeter containment to successfully bring the incident under control.
