Monroe, N.J — September 19 — At about 6:20 a.m. on September 19, multiple fire companies responded to 7 Vernon Avenue in Monroe Township for a reported structure fire. Initial dispatch info noted smoke visible from a distance.
On arrival, heavy fire was burning in the garage area (A/B corner) of the building, and smoke had spread throughout much of the structure. Because of the level of fire involvement, a second alarm was struck, bringing in additional companies from neighboring towns.
Engine 23A set up a water supply, while Engine 51 positioned itself in front of the house and deployed two handlines to battle the fire. Ladder 23 was stationed on the east side to help, while Tower 51 was aided by a 5-inch supply line installed to feed its operations.
Crews from Engine 23 conducted an interior push to keep the fire from spreading farther into the house. Meanwhile, Engine 51 personnel operated from the outside. Thanks to the quick coordination of emergency companies, including Stations 51, 23A, 23B, and 57, the fire was restricted to the garage, averting considerable expansion into dwelling spaces.
Fire control was established in around 30 minutes. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
"Outstanding work by all companies involved," remarked Chief 51. "The quick response and aggressive tactics made a significant difference in preventing further damage."
