Kingston Volunteer Fire Company, N.J., Sept 19: To increase awareness of the risks that large buildings might provide during fire operations, Kingston Volunteer Fire Company #1 conducted a tri-company simulation in a nearby warehouse on the evening of September 19. Three companies' members took a tour of the building and practiced methods and tactics to increase firefighter safety.

Participants in the practice went over size-up protocols and noted potential roadblocks such vertical openings, restricted access spots, and structural difficulties. Additionally, they tried controlling long-distance hose stretches and arranging ventilation to lessen the accumulation of smoke in expansive indoor spaces.

In order to manage complex situations inside large structures, the training placed a strong emphasis on close collaboration, communication between businesses, and using individual capabilities.
