Perth Amboy, N.J. — September 3 — Firefighters from Hope Lawn Engine Company No. 1 responded with the Port Authority Fire Department (PAFD) to 192 Meade Street on Wednesday afternoon after reports of smoke in a two-story building.
Crews arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the first floor. Command transmitted a second alarm, bringing additional companies and mutual aid to the scene. Firefighters stretched two hoselines into the structure, quickly containing and extinguishing the blaze. At the same time, ventilation crews cleared smoke while searches of the building were completed. The fire was held to the first floor.
The PAFD Fire Investigation Unit is working to determine the origin and cause. No injuries were reported. Displaced residents are receiving assistance from the City’s Relocation Officers and the American Red Cross.
Engines 1, 2, and 4; Truck 3; Rescue 1; and command units C-1 through C-5 responded. Mutual aid came from Woodbridge and Hope Lawn, while Sayreville and Engine 3 covered the city during the incident.
Officials noted the operation reflected strong coordination between first-due units and mutual aid partners, ensuring the fire was confined and brought under control without further damage.
