RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sept. 11, 2025) — More than 160 people joined firefighters Thursday for the 12th annual stair climb in memory of the 343 New York City firefighters who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The tribute, organized by Raritan Township Fire Company with Hunterdon Health, began with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time Flight 11 struck the North Tower. Five additional silences marked other key moments of the attacks, including the collapse of the towers and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
Participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, with many wearing firefighting gear or weighted vests and carrying photos of fallen first responders.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the FealGood Foundation, which supports responders impacted by 9/11-related illnesses. Since the attacks, more than 700 active and retired firefighters have died from those conditions, according to fire officials.
The fire company thanked Hunterdon Health, local businesses and community members for their support.
