On Monday, September 15, the Oceanport Fire Department — comprised of Oceanport Hook & Ladder Fire Company and Port-Au-Peck Chemical Hose Volunteer Fire Company — conducted a drafting drill.
Drafting is a vital firefighting skill that involves establishing a dependable water supply from static sources such as ponds, lakes, rivers, or portable tanks when hydrants are unavailable. During the drill, firefighters practiced connecting to a static water source, sustaining a steady water flow, and troubleshooting potential challenges such as air leaks, obstructions, or elevation changes.
The exercise enhanced the department’s preparedness for emergencies in areas where traditional hydrant systems are limited or unavailable.
The Oceanport Fire Department continues to welcome new members and encourages anyone interested in joining to reach out for more information.
