The Secaucus Fire Department and Washington Hook & Ladder Company #1 hosted a special ceremony honoring Ex-Captain William “Bo” Koenemund.

This year marks 40 years since Koenemund’s passing in the line of duty — a loss that left a lasting impact on both the department and the community. Over the course of 39 years, Koenemund faithfully served Washington Hook & Ladder Co. #1 as a Firefighter, Secretary, Lieutenant, and Captain. His family’s commitment to the fire service spans more than 225 combined years, a legacy that continues today through his son, Former Chief William E. Koenemund, and his granddaughter, Lieutenant Julia Koenemund of the Paramus Fire Department.

As part of the remembrance, a street was officially dedicated in Koenemund’s honor, ensuring that his name and legacy will remain permanently tied to the Secaucus community he so proudly served.

The department expressed its gratitude to Mayor and Fire Chief Michael Gonnelli, the Secaucus Town Council, Fire Chief Lawrence Marciano, Ex-Chiefs George Heflich Sr. and Raymond Cieciuch, Lt. Donald Cieciuch, Father Victor Kennedy, Malessa De La Cruz, the Secaucus Fire Department Honor Guard, and all officers, members, and supporters who helped make the day meaningful.

Most of all, the department extended heartfelt thanks to the Koenemund family for allowing them to honor Bo’s memory. The ceremony served as a day of reflection and tribute — a reminder of the sacrifice, leadership, and dedication that define the Secaucus Fire Department.
