CAPE MAY, N.J. (Sept. 5, 2025) — Emergency crews searched the waters off Madison Avenue beach Friday morning after a report that a swimmer had gone missing, officials said.

Firefighters worked with the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police marine and aviation units, Cape May Beach Patrol, Cape May police and multiple fire boats and agencies. Searches continued until just after 2:30 p.m. and included the use of side-scan sonar.
Authorities said the missing person was described as a woman about 30 to 40 years old. The U.S. Coast Guard and state police continued search efforts Friday evening.
Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective Atkinson of the Cape May Police Department at 609-884-9508.
Beach patrol officials closed all waters due to surf conditions.
