WILDWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 2, 2025) — Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a duplex on the 300 block of East Montgomery Avenue Tuesday evening, bringing the fire under control within 10 minutes, officials said.

Squad Company 3 and North Wildwood Ladder Company 2 were dispatched just after 8 p.m. Reports from arriving police officers confirmed a working fire before crews arrived.

Firefighters found flames showing from the east side of the two-and-a-half story building and launched an aggressive interior attack. Primary searches determined the duplex was unoccupied.

The balance of the first alarm assignment was recalled after the knockdown. Wildwood Crest Fire Department provided station coverage while units operated on scene for about 90 minutes.

No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, Wildwood Police Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
