BAYONNE, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2025) — A garage fire in Bayonne spread to a neighboring home Sunday afternoon, prompting a two-alarm response, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Calls came in around 3:50 p.m. reporting heavy smoke near 45th Street and Avenue C. Firefighters arrived within minutes to find a detached garage and vehicles burning behind 48 West 45th Street, Bayonne Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Bartos said.

Crews used multiple handlines to extinguish the blaze, which was declared under control at 4:19 p.m. While checking for hot spots, firefighters saw smoke coming from the rear of a home at 41 West 44th Street. Companies diverted to that location, and the second fire was brought under control at 5:01 p.m.

No residents were displaced, and the cause of both fires remains under investigation. Mutual aid companies and the Bayonne Fire Canteen supported the operation.
