COLONIA, N.J. (Sept. 3, 2025) — Firefighters knocked down an attic fire Wednesday afternoon at a home on Rutgers Avenue, officials said.
The Colonia Fire Department was dispatched around 1:45 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the roof. Crews arrived to find heavy fire in the attic and declared a working structure fire.
Three handlines were stretched to stop the fire from spreading further. Firefighters from Avenel conducted vertical ventilation, while units from Iselin and Rahway assisted with suppression, searches and overhaul.
Hopelawn Fire served as the rapid intervention team, and Woodbridge Fire covered Colonia’s district during the incident.
The bulk of the fire was brought under control within 24 minutes. No firefighters or civilians were injured. The cause is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
