Smoke Condition Prompts Assisted Living Facility Evacuation on Shrewsbury Ave

At approximately 5:30 p.m., District 36 was dispatched for a reported smoke condition on the second floor of an occupied assisted living facility on Shrewsbury Avenue. Stations 1 and 2 responded, along with mutual aid from Little Silver, Neptune Township, Wanamassa (Ocean Township), Asbury Park, and Glendola (Wall Township – cover assignment).


Upon arrival, crews confirmed a light smoke condition and began investigating. Monmouth County EMS resources assisted on scene, coordinating precautionary evacuations of residents.


The source of the smoke was quickly identified as an electrical issue. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. After mitigation and checks for extension, all units were placed clear of the scene.
