Prolonged Entrapment on Route 17K: Bloomingburg and Bullville Rescue Driver Stranded for Hours

Bloomingburg, NY - Volunteer firefighters and emergency responders executed a complex, 30-minute mechanical extrication Wednesday morning to free a driver trapped inside a damaged vehicle for multiple hours along Route 17K.

At approximately 5:23 a.m. on August 19, 2026, the Bloomingburg Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 17K in the vicinity of Long Lane. First-arriving officers from the Town of Wallkill Police Department confirmed heavy entrapment of a lone occupant.

In response, Command Unit 62-03 immediately requested an all-call re-tone for additional Bloomingburg personnel and summoned mutual aid from the Bullville Fire Company for an engine and extrication manpower.

Upon establishing initial contact, emergency personnel learned the sole occupant had remained pinned inside the wreckage for several hours prior to discovery and dispatch. Firefighters deployed hydraulic rescue tools, operating methodically through extensive vehicle deformation for roughly 30 minutes to disentangle and free the injured patient.

Town of Wallkill EMS provided immediate advanced life support on scene before transporting the driver to Garnet Health Medical Center for further emergency medical treatment.

Scene safety, investigation, and traffic control operations were coordinated jointly with the Town of Wallkill Police Department and the Town of Crawford Police Department throughout the multi-agency response.
