CHARLOTTE, Maine — Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue announced that open burning is permitted after 5 p.m. on days rated Low or Moderate fire danger, under both written and online permits, with all fires required to be fully extinguished by 8 a.m. the following day. The department noted that conditions remain dry and said it will continue monitoring fire danger, urging residents to follow permit rules strictly. Latest update: State guidance remains unchanged—online permits are valid only on Low/Moderate days—and local officials say the after-5 p.m. allowance is intended to reduce wildfire risk during the warmest, windiest daytime hours. Residents should check the daily fire-danger rating before burning and be prepared for restrictions if conditions worsen.
