South Plainfield Crews Contain Second-Alarm Garage and Roof Fire

South Plainfield firefighters and mutual-aid companies operated at a second-alarm residential fire involving an attached garage with extension into the roof.

The South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 1:46 a.m. on September 8, 2026, to the 1300 block of Crown Lane in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Chief of Department Campbell, Chief 50, arrived to find a two-car garage heavily involved with fire extending across the roof and transmitted a second alarm.

First-due Engine 4 stretched a 2½-inch handline to the garage, while Truck 7 positioned on the front side and began roof operations. Engine 5 provided additional personnel as interior crews opened ceilings and wall spaces to locate and extinguish extension.

Mutual aid at the fireground included Edison Engine 4 and a battalion chief, Plainfield Engine 3, Colonia Truck 12-2-1 and New Market Engine 62. North Stelton, Metuchen and Dunellen companies provided coverage, while South Plainfield EMS handled firefighter rehabilitation.

Crews contained the fire and extension into the residence. The South Plainfield Bureau of Fire Prevention was investigating the cause.
