NEWTOWN, Conn. (Aug. 9, 2025) — A mobile home was destroyed Saturday evening in a fire that drew a multi-company response, officials said.
The blaze was reported at 5:36 p.m. in Botsford Fire Rescue’s first-due district. Engine 551 arrived within minutes to find the home fully involved, with a propane tank venting near the main entrance.
Crews stretched a line and initiated a transitional attack. The chief officer from Engine 551 forced entry through the rear door but became entangled in wires and was freed by another firefighter. A primary search confirmed no occupants were inside.
Firefighters continued suppression efforts after the search. Officials said the home was a total loss, though some contents were salvageable. Small reptile pets died in the blaze.
No firefighters were injured. Adjacent homes and vehicles sustained heat damage. The cause remains under investigation by the Newtown Fire Marshal’s Office.
Mutual aid came from multiple area departments, while Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary and Station 25 provided water and rehab support for crews.
