STURBRIDGE, Mass. (Aug. 10, 2025) — Firefighters contained a blaze to one room of a residential apartment building Sunday night after smoke was reported at 9 Snell Street.
The fire was reported at 7:56 p.m. when a 911 caller described alarms sounding and possible smoke with residents evacuating. Sturbridge Engine 2 arrived within minutes to find smoke showing from several windows of the 2.5-story building.
A second alarm was struck as crews deployed two hose lines for an aggressive attack. The fire was quickly knocked down and kept to the first-floor room of origin, officials said.
The blaze was brought under control soon after, with no civilian or firefighter injuries reported. The cause is under investigation.
The Red Cross and Sturbridge Animal Control assisted displaced residents at the scene. Mutual aid companies responded from Southbridge, Charlton, Brimfield, Auburn, Brookfield and Spencer EMS.
